Another sheet of character ideas- these are the "power thugs" for the Shadow Boss. Each of them were administered synthetic drugs that proved to be highly addictive, but they also produced unusual results in these few guinea pigs- from super speed, strength, and knock-out touches, these rough-looking characters will do anything the Shadow Boss says for their next hit. How much trouble can they cause, and how long can they continue to be the puppets of the Shadow Boss?

I know the hand written scribble can be hard to read, but this is part of the process I work in. The top left character is PI. I started drawing him back in the mid-80's as a homage to characters like the Shadow, Batman, the Spider, etc. Like them, he is dark and mysterious, using resources that other heroes may not be willing to go to, and he is a little more ruthless than your Superman type characters.
Below him is one of the Sword's best friends, because everyone needs friends, right?
The top right has a cat-burglar character who is something of a disillusioned loser.
Whisper is the character on the bottom right- he is very evil and a dirty fighter. Watch out for him early on in the Sword's adventures.

Part of having a good story is having enough characters to tell a story with. While I am sure there will be more people who will be helped, befriended or brought down by the Sword, these next few character cards should supply enough of a starting point.

While episodes of the Sword's story are built up and fine-tuned, I thought I would begin posting character cards of some of the main players- heroes, villians, supporting characters, etc. Of course, since this is the Sword's strip, he gets the first card! Enjoy!

The Sword's Stories- an experiment in Christian Comics

As the title suggests, this blog will be an experiment. It will be an experiment for several reasons- 1) will I be able to continue to build up and post story installments on time?
2) will these stories be any good?
3) will anyone want to read an adventure about a super hero who is a Christian?

Hopefully these questions will be answered as I decide on a format to present my story in, am able to stay on a schedule that is reasonable to my responsibilities yet doesn't keep any readers in the lurch waiting too long, and any feedback should let me know if anyone on the planet has even seen the stories and what they think of it (even if they think it's lousy, I want to know that along with what and why in the strip have made it lousy).

This strip is about one Mike Daniels, a recently released pro football player now having to find real work. Along with his mounting problems, Mike is given a suit of armor by a strange old man and under strange circumstances. From there his life is torn between fighting the battles of the everyday, the extraordinary battles of the real world, and battles of spiritual realms. His adventures will take him around the globe from big cities to the oldest and most remote corners of the planet. They will take him below the earth, into the oceans, and to other place the Sword never expected.
